Cecret Lake is also known as Secret Lake. Cecret Lake is a great hike for beginners that would love to see a high altitude lake. This lake is found in the Albion Basin up Little Cottonwood Canyon. This area is known for its great snow in the winter, but there are many other treasures in this area. More than a 100 different types of wildflowers bloom each year in the basin. Also chances are high that you will see moose up in the meadows during your hike. So bring a camera to try and capture all the beauty that you will see.
The Cecret Lake trailhead starts below the Albion Basin campground. Follow the trail south out of the parking lot, you will start crossing small streams soon after starting this hike. After about a half mile you will start to leave the meadow and start hiking up switchbacks to the lake. You will arrive on the northeast side of the lake. You can circle the lake following a small foot path. Some people that feel a little more adventurous continue to hike to the top of Sugarloaf Peak. But this requires scrambling and I don’t recommend it to beginners.
How to get there: From I-15 take the 9000 South exit. Head east on 9000 South, after a couple miles it will turn into 9400 South and then into Little Cottonwood Road. Follow this road to the mouth of the canyon and then follow the canyon to Albion Basin. Continue for 2.5 miles on a dirt road to the Cecret Lake Trailhead. Google Map
