Ensign Peak is a popular hike right out of the city. At the top of the peak you can over look the Salt Lake Valley and into Davis County. After the pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley, President Brigham Young and others hiked to the top of this peak and named it Ensign Peak.
This is a relatively short hike but it is steep. The trailhead is easy to find and the trail is well marked and easy to follow. As you arrive on top you will see a monument.
This hike has a lot of pioneer history and is a signaficiant part of the Mormon pioneers’ heritage.
This can be a hot hike in the summer months. I would recommend to hike this in either the morning or evening in the summer. The view from the top is amazing and at night the Salt Lake Valley lights are beautiful.
How to get there: Follow State St. north up towards the capitol building. When you get to the capitol building turn right and cotinue on East Capitol Blvd. Follow this road til you come to Ensign Vista Dr on the left. Continue on this road til you come to the trailhead on the right. Google Map
