Vasque Taku Boot

The Taku was built to be fast and durable. If you have ever hiked in the Breeze GTX by Vasque you will love the feel of the Taku. The Taku is a full leather version of the best-selling Breeze GTX. The Taku features waterproof protection, yet is lightweight and supportive. Vasque takes all the good qualities of the Breeze and made the Taku a little more durable.

This is a great boot for those heading out hiking and even doing some backpacking. It is a high-top giving you great ankle support. Also mesh panels at collars keep the boot breathable in warm temperatures. The Vibram sole performs great and has great traction. The Taku has the Arc Tempo Last, which creates an athletic fit that promotes quickness and agility over technical ground. The rubber toe protects the front of the shoe and is a great bonus.

Sizing on the Taku was good. I always wear a 9 and the 9 fit perfectly. One thing that Vasque has always prided itself on is fit. On their site, where they mention widths it says “Because we are obsessed with performance fit.” The Taku does come in different sizes, widths and women specific models.

I have worn these boots hiking in Idaho and Utah and have been impressed by how the have felt right out of the box. The first time out, I went on an easy 2 mile hike and experienced no hot spots or blisters. I have hiked in them with a loaded pack, my 2 year old in her kid carrier, and without a pack and have loved them each time. I hiked in the rain and through marshes in Unitas and my feet stay nice and dry.

I have owned the Vasque Breeze, in a low top for a few years now and I have preferred them when going out on short backpacking trips. I will now be using the Taku for most of these trips as they are lightweight and comfortable, yet more durable.

I recommend giving the Taku a try and see if you are as impressed as I am.
