Sperry Son-R

I am an outdoor fanatic who loves to do anything and everything adventure can offer. I have spent much time on my own and working with others in the water, the air, or in the mountains. One of the most important pieces of equipment to have no matter where you go is good footwear. The Sperry Top-Sider SON-R Bungee is designed for water sports, but it handles well in diverse situations.

I spent this summer hiking trails, canoeing, kayaking, river rafting, and rock climbing. I have had plenty of shoes to try on the trail or in the water; plain flip flops, Chacos, Tevas, Keens, and a Sketcher brand of something similar to the SON-R. Each of these brands has served me well, but I have settled on my preferences. The SON-R has many features like these old favorites, with some additional perks, which has allowed me to use it as a universal shoe.

The Hydro-Grip Outsole is thin enough for you to feel the traction of your feet when you walk through water, which is really useful when you can’t see under the surface. It is also thick enough to not bruise your feet when you step on any jagged, sharp, or random pebbles that sometimes come unexpectedly. The shoe fits very comfortably so you don’t have to continue to adjust it, and it doesn’t rub up against the skin creating any blisters. It dries quickly and doesn’t hold any annoying water puddles in your shoe because of an internal drainage system. However, because the Anti-Microbial Lining insole is designed for water, it can get a little sweaty if you take it for a long hike. I have not had a problem with odor after a summer of hikes, but it may be because I have learned how to keep the stench down, even on my climbing shoes. Sometimes the smell isn’t because of the shoe, people.

I have been using these shoes solid for about four months now in all of my adventures, and when I pull my foot out of the water the shoe looks like new. Maybe I need to play harder, but my point is they are very durable. I have had no trouble with the tightening bungee or had anything snag to tear or shred the shoe. Take the Sperry SON-R wherever you want, and it will serve you well for a long time.
