When traveling one must try to decide what is needed and what to leave behind. The people at ExOfficio are always looking for ways to get the most out of a garment. Why pack multiple items, when one piece of clothing will work for the whole trip. The Storm Logic fits perfectly into the category of only needing one piece to work for a whole trip.
When I first received the Storm Logic from ExOfficio, I was impressed. It looked felt and fit great. For me, it fit just as a large should. It is lightweight and has just the right amount of fill to be puffy, but not huge.
The shell of this jacket is made of durable 20 denier ripstop nylon, that has been treated with Durable Water Repellant (DWR) for both water and stain resistance. In light rain or snow this jacket repelled the water and didn’t soak in unwanted moisture. This jacket is filled with Primaloft One insulation which is warm even when wet and give this jacket also a high warmth-to-weight ratio. PrimaLoft One, which absorbs 3x less water, is 14% warmer when dry and 24% warmer when wet than the competitive insulation.
Wearing this jacket at temperatures near freezing is no problem. But going much below freezing is reaching the limits of this jacket for me. The other nice feature is that the fabric of the jacket is heat set, creating a windproof barrier. This is nice while out in cold weather because it doesn’t let the cold wind blow right through the material. If the jacket wasn’t windproof, I don’t think it would be as warm.
If pockets are what you are looking for, you will not have to look any further. This jacket features 7 pockets to hold all the essentials while traveling. The four interior pockets are travel pockets. There are two drop in pockets, one is microfleece-lined for eye glasses and the other is for a boarding pass. The other two pockets have zippers and are designed for a cell phone and a passport. The passport pocket also includes a key clip. A vertical front zippered pocket and two zippered hand pockets on the outside of this jacket are great to secure other valuables.
Another great feature of this jacket is the built in stuff sack, which allows the jacket to be rolled up into an adjustable travel pillow. This is handy so you do not have to pack a separate travel pillow. The microfleece-lined collar and chin guard feel soft and comfortable as well. And a bungee cinch at the bottom hem and elastic cuffs keep the wind and cold out.
One feature that I have not tested is how quickly the jacket dries after being washed. As with other ExOfficio products this jacket should be able to be washed on the go. Which means you can wash it and overnight the fabric and jacket will dry. Seeing this jacket I believe that is will do just that.
This is a great jacket. It is versatile, warm and functional. This winter it has been one of two jackets that I reach for when heading to work, store or almost anywhere.
