Gerber Steady Tool

The new Gerber Steady is built for the urban or weekend warrior. This multi-tool has 12 different components that I believe are the essentials for most jobs with an added benefit. The best part of this tool is that it converts into a tripod, so you will never have to miss being in the summit photo with the group or the early sunrise where you need a steady hand for a great picture. All this in one tool that packs small and feels great with the rubberized coating.

The Steady multi-tool has needlenose pliers that has one of the skinniest needlenose ends that I have seen on a multi-tool. Thes pliers are nice when getting into small areas or pulling out a sliver. They are precise little pliers. The pliers also have a set of wire cutters on them. The Steady comes with two knife blades; a serrated and a fine edge blade. These come in handy when needing to cut rope to peeling an orange. It has two sizes of regular or flat screwdrivers and one Philips or cross screwdriver. Also with the included bottle opener you will always be ready for the post adventure celebrations.

But the one design feature that I have never seen on any other multi-tool is the tripod functionality. There are two legs that fold out and with the handle of the tool, it convert this tool into a tripod. This tripod is not for those that have huge cameras or DSLRs but for those with the point and shoot or cameras under a pound in weight. The screw-in camera mount folds out of the tool and is simple to use and attach to the camera.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel SLR and I did connect it to the Steady. I was surprised that it did hold it but not everytime. I had to make a lot of micro adjustments before it would stay. I know that it is not meant to do this, I was just seeing if it would. It does hold my point and shoot though and also my cell phone. Yes, cell phone. A smart little feature that this tool has is a cell phone attachment so all of us weekend warriors that forget a camera but brought our cell phones can still get the picture. There is a little suction cup attachment that attaches to the screen and then attach to the screw-in camera mount. I know that more and more people are using their phones as the main camera.

The Steady is really for anyone who loves taking picture while out having a good time. It is tough and looks great, as well as functional. You will never need to find someone to take your picture again and you won’t have to miss being the only one not included in the summit or group photo.
