Landon Faulkner and his cousin Andrew are two bearded adventurers that are trying to make a difference for some at risk and under-served youth. They have announced Climb for Change, an ambitious assault, and first-ever two-day winter ascent, of Mount Lassen and Brokeoff Mountain in California’s Lassen Volcanic National Park using snowshoes.
The Faulkner’s are testing their own personal limits to support a cause they are both passionate about — helping under-privileged teens discover positive change through outdoor adventure. “Outdoor adventure has had an amazing impact on my life and Climb for Change allows us to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate to experience its power,” said Landon Faulkner.
To help these youth the Faulkner’s have partnered with Peak 7 Adventures, an outdoor adventure nonprofit for under-privileged and at-risk teens, and are out to raise $5,000. Landon say that “Climb for a Change will help Peak 7 provide adventures more than 100 teens.”
Peak 7 offers teens adventures in backpacking, whitewater rafting and climbing to help them learn about themselves and work more collaboratively with their peers. The organization relies on in-kind support and requires approximately $55,000 per month to help more than 3,000 under-privileged and at-risk teens annually.
“We are very blessed to have Landon and Andrew partnering with us for the Climb for Change campaign, “said Ryan Rodin, Development Manager for Peak 7.“The funds and awareness they and their supporters continue to raise for Peak 7 will allow us to impact the lives of even more underprivileged youth through meaningful outdoor adventures.”
Landon and Andrew will launch their ambitious assault February 21 and will climb a total of 6,422 feet and cover 30 miles in a park that receives 41 feet of snowfall each winter. Throughout the journey they will be exposed to avalanche prone terrain and harsh winter conditions including challenging travel over deep snow. The bearded pair will climb Brokeoff Mountain, snowshoe nine miles to Mount Lassen, summit, and then complete the nine mile return trip to camp.
The Faulkners say Climb for Change will truly be a success, not if they summit the peaks, but if they reach their fundraising goal of $5,000.

The two started off with a goal of $3,250 but when they reached the goal so quickly they decided to relaunch the campaign and shot for $5,000 in hopes to help more teens. Landon wrote on their blog, “The support we have received has been amazing and to have reached our goal weeks ahead of schedule is truly amazing, we cannot thank everyone enough for your support. The money raised will go directly to helping Peak 7 Adventures.”
Along with a new goal they also wanted to add some pretty rad prizes as a way of saying thanks and hopefully exciting some of you who haven’t yet donated to do just that! Prizes range from t-shirts to Powerocks Rose Stones and from Osprey Packs to a Teton Sports sleeping bag.
